Melancholy. Documentary photographer Elena Serafimova

Melancholy

During a time of global upheaval, socio-political problems, and a global crisis, my reflections led me to the idea that photography can become a small bridge that, at least temporarily, can take our thoughts to an imaginary world where it is quiet and safe. This is how this series came to be, immersing me in a state of detachment and sadness, but at the same time, peace and depth. As if you were at the bottom of the ocean and no external storms could disturb you. Only a feeling of incredible melancholy permeates through you. This is a longing for people, time, freedom, life, opportunities, desires, thoughts, sensations…

A state of vacuum. Time has no meaning. It does not exist. It was invented by people to endlessly stimulate themselves in the pursuit of imaginary benefits. To detach. To switch off. To freeze. To dissolve into the endless space of the universe. To experience the unity of man and nature. To sense these invisible threads that permeate the space and unite everything into one beautiful pattern.
